Actor Bill Murray has just been confirmed to be part of the cast of the 2016 “Ghostbusters” reboot by Paul Feig. Murray will be joining stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Hemsworth, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
Murray has been vocal about his hesitation to do another Ghostbusters movie previously. The Hollywood Reporter said that Murray had even told that David Letterman earlier this year that it was because the film “Ghostbusters II” in 1989 did not do as well as the first. In fact, he referred to rumors linking him to the upcoming film as “crazy talk.”
Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman in the 1984 version
He played the role of Dr. Peter Venkman in earlier “Ghostbusters” films, the first of which came out back in 1984. Moreover, there was once plan to do a third “Ghostbusters” film, but Daily Mail reports that Murray was very much opposed to it. Furthermore, original “Ghostbusters” cast member Harold Ramis also died around this time, definitively putting an end to any plans for the third film.
Meanwhile, Deadline also reports that sources have indicated that Murray has been “sunck” into the film set in Boston to film a scene. In addition, the Daily Mail reports that Murray and fellow “Ghostbuster” alum Dan Aykroyd will actually be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming film.
This seems to have been confirmed when Aykroyd tweeted from the “Ghostbusters” set last month that he was shooting his scene with Kristen Wiig. However, he has since, deleted the said tweet.
The new “Ghostbusters” film will arrive in theaters on July 22, 2016.
