Beyonce surprised her fans tonight at tonight’s opening performance at the 2016 BET Awards by showing up unannounced onstage and performing her heart out.
Beyonce performed her song “Freedom” and insanely, walked across water like a goddess that she is. She was surrounded by equally powerful dancers as the stage shoots up blasts of fire. Amid all the water splashing and crazy dance moves by those around her, Beyonce held the attention of the audience.
With her hair swinging around in braids, Beyonce killed it.
“Freedom, freedom! Where are you? ‘Cause I need freedom too,” she chanted. “I break chains all by myself / Won’t let my freedom rot in hell / Imma keep running ‘cause a winner don’t quit on themselves,” she chanted, in her barefoot, black patterned leotard glory.
Kendrick Lamar also showed up in the performance, making it even more enthralling. “Open correctional gates in higher desert / Open our mind as we cast away oppression,” the seven-time Grammy award winner rapped. “Open the streets and watch our beliefs / And when they carve my name inside the concrete, I pray it forever reads [freedom],’ Lamar rapped.
Revolt TV tweeted about the performance and described it as “Black Excellence.”
Perez Hilton described Beyonce’s #BETawards opening was one of the best performances of the singer.
Both Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar are nomiated for several BET Awards. Beyoncé is nominated for a total of five BET Awards: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year for her “Formation” visual, as reported by US Magazine.
Lamar on the other hand, is up for Video of the Year for “Alright” as well as Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.
