Battle For Aleppo: Children Killed In Latest Barrel Bomb Attack In Syria

More sad news from Syria as the battle for Aleppo intensifies. 11 children are among the 15 dead in the latest barrel bomb attack on the city.

It has barely been a month after the image of the boy in an ambulance touched the hearts of millions around the world. Unfortunately, unlike Omran Daqneesh the children hit by this latest attack were not so lucky.

According to CNN, activists shared the harrowing videos after a barrel bomb attack killed 15 people. According to two reliable sources, 11 children are among the dead although there are differing accounts regarding the number of children killed in Thursday’s attack.

The Aleppo Media Center reported that 5 children have been killed during the attack. On the other hand, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least 11 children were killed.

More Dead Children In The Battle For Aleppo

According to the Daily Mail, the deadly attack occurred in rebel-held Bab al-Nayrab neighborhood in Aleppo. According to activists, this was just one of two attacks that happened on Thursday.

Eight people were killed when the rebels fired a mortar in regime held territory. This highlights a very important fact in this war that has raged on since 2011, it does not matter who wins in the end, it is the civilians who suffer the most.

The battle for Aleppo, which has been in rebel hands for most of the civil war, has gotten much attention after videos revealing the plight of civilians went viral. The Assad regime has been using barrel bombs to terrible effect since the beginning of the War in Syria.

The bombs are designed to maximize destruction but also without regard for collateral damage. As the citizens of Aleppo mourn the dead, people are asked to leave their homes. Activists also reported that the city has been pounded with barrel bombs in recent weeks as regime forces clash with rebels.

Citizens of the city of Daraya left on buses on Friday as part of an evacuation agreement between the two parties. Currently there’s no clear advantage between the rebels and the regime in the battle for Aleppo.
