Nine drug traffickers, which include Filipina Mary Jane Veloso and two Australians, are held in an isolated cell in Indonesia waiting for execution by firing squad. All convicts are sentenced to death for drug trafficking with no chances of a pardon.
Security has been tightened around the prison, and religious therapists, a medical team and the firing squad are prepared for the execution of the convicts: four Nigerians, two Australians, a Brazilian, an Indonesian, and Mary Jane Veloso.
The coffins are ready and ambulances have arrived at the Nusakambangan prison island in central Java. Around midnight, the prisoners will be moved to separate cells.
Family members of prisoners Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan were spotted in the prison premises to say goodbye to their dear ones. The prisoners spent time with their respective families at Nusa Kambangan prison.
Chan’s last wish to marry his Indonesian girlfriend Febyanti was fulfilled by the authorities, according to GMA News. Close family members and friends attended the wedding ceremony on Monday.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has confirmed that President Joko Widodo will not grant clemency to the prisoners.
