It was a controversial moment in Toronto during Game 5 of the American League Division Series between the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays.
As reported by NESN.com, it started with an unbelievable call in the seventh inning – giving the Rangers a lead, but which they couldn’t hold onto for long – which elicited extreme rebuke from the crowd. Beer cans and bottles were chucked by Blue Jays Fans on to the field. But some of the trash didn’t reach as far as the field – one beer can hit a baby. However, police later clarified in a tweet that the baby was “sprayed with some beer.” An arrest had been made.
The situation had gotten so out of hand that the Blue Jays players had to come out on the field and ask fans to stop throwing trash.
Blue Jays eventually surged past the Rangers, scoring four runs – a three run homerun from Jose Bautista – in the bottom of the inning. Blue Jays were victorious, winning with a margin of 6-3 – and clinching the series as well, 3-2. They advance into the ALCS.
