Asus is catching up with OEMs in releasing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. In fact, the company just released a list of devices eligible to receive the update. According to the company, users should expect the release sometime around the end of Q2 2016.
In the previous year, the company released a list of devices in line to receive the Marshmallow flavored ZenUI. However, a timeline was not provided at that time. Now it appears that Asus has finalized the details of the ROM as a definite period has been set. According to the company’s announcement, the following devices should expect the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update soon:
- PadFone S (PF500KL)
- ZenFone 2 (ZE550ML, ZE551ML)
- ZenFone 2 Deluxe (ZE551ML)
- ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition (ZE551ML)
- ZenFone 2 Laser (ZE500KG, ZE500KL, ZE550KL, ZE551KL, ZE600KL, ZE601KL)
- ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL)
- ZenFone Max (ZC550KL)
- ZenFone Zoom (ZX551ML)
As for what people should expect from the update, Asus has this to say: “Google Messenger, Calendar, and Gmail apps will automatically be included with the Android M update. These apps will replace three ZenUI apps—ASUS Messenger, ASUS Mail and ASUS Calendar—as the default apps in the Android M version of ZenUI if you restore to factory settings after the update.”
For users who are worried about restoring their devices to factory settings, features like Asus Calendar, Asus Mail and Asus Messenger can be downloaded from the Google Play Store again, according to Softpedia. As with other Android updates, some users may have early or delayed access to the update depending on the carrier and region. It is best to check with regional units and carriers on the final release of the updates. Surprisingly, Asus also did not join the Mobile World Congress. The company did not announce new smartphones unlike other players like Samsung, Xiaomi and LG.
