Ashley Graham, famous lingerie model for plus-size clothing store Lane Bryant, is changing the modeling world. The size-16 model will be the first to cover the iconic swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated. Though the body activist made the issue last year, the model was featured in an ad for plus-size swimwear brand Swimsuitsforall.
Graham took to Instagram to share her happiness, “Truly speechless!! This cover is for every woman in the world who felt like she wasn’t beautiful enough for the reason of her size.” “You can do and attain anything you put your mind to.”
Daily Mail claims that, aside from Ashley Graham, the mixed martial artist, judoka, and actress Ronda Rousey, and fashion model Hailey Clauson, have been announced publicly as cover stars for the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Ashley Graham’s magazine cover was publicized on Saturday during TNT’s SI cover reveal special with Nick Cannon and Rebecca Romiijn (famous for her character as Mystique in the X-Men films). The issue hits newsstands by Monday.
On the magazine’s website, the assistant managing editor MJ Day states, “The three covers of Hailey, Ronda and Ashley celebrate the new SI Swimsuit. All three of them are beautiful, sexy and strong.”
PEOPLE asserts that a model from Nebraska, Ashley Graham is open about feeling insecure about her body. The model said,”I felt free once I became fully aware that I was never going to fit the mold that society wanted me to fit in.
“I was never going to be perfect enough for an industry that describes exactly the nature of perfection from the outside and that’s okay. Rolls, curves, cellulite, all of it – I love every part of me.”
