Creation of a state-of-the-art protective shield for humankind is one of the early development plans of this project. The project thus aims at preventing the world from the cosmic threats like asteroid attacks and both man made and natural threats to life on earth.

As per the concept of this grand project, travel to the other planets is a foreseeable thing in future since people have populated all over the planet earth and they have explored every corner of the earth. Asgardia will demonstrate the scientists all over the world that a private, independent and unrestricted research is possible. The very first prototype satellite is expected to launch in 2017 to 2018.

Asgardia is named in the honor of an ancient mythological city in space. This space project will offer an independent settlement which will be free from the constraint of the laws of a  land-based country.
