As expected, Apple unveiled a powerful Siri-enabled Apple TV in the Apple Event yesterday besides iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Tim Cook, CEO, said at the event, “Apple TV represents the future of television. The television experience has been virtually standing still, while innovation has been thriving in the mobile space. Today we are going to do something about that.” The statement makes it crystal clear that yes, the company wants to focus not just on the iPhones, but on other gadgets, as well. And we must say, they are doing a pretty good job in all the other domains as well.
What’s so special about Apple TV?
The new Apple TV comes with –
i. 64-bit A8 processor
ii. 802.11ac WIFi with MIMO
iii. IR receiver
iv. Bluetooth 4.0
v. HDMI, Ethernet
Listed above are just the specifications, but what makes this TV more special is its remote. Apple TV remote now has a touch surface designed to make apps easily accessible. This remote control which supports Bluetooth 4.0 has a rechargeable battery that lasts for 3 months.
Apple TV – A Gaming Console?
Rumors of Apple focusing on gaming has been doing the rounds for a long time now. The brand is also said to be working on MacBooks that are designed with gamers in mind. Similarly, Apple TV has also been designed using the perspective of a gamer; hence the powerful hardware and a remote with touch surface.
Is it a gaming console? If it were a console, it would have supported Xbox as well. Then how does Apple work for gamers? Suppose you want to play multiplayer games with your friends. What your friends need to do is show up with their iPod touch or an iPhone which will act as controllers. And Apple TV, as we all know, now comes loaded with apps. So turn on the game of your choice and have fun.
The remote with Siri
The best part of this latest gadget is that the remote comes with built-in Siri functionality. You can now rewind your shows up to 15 seconds by asking Siri questions like, “What did she say?” Now that is something interesting. You can also ask Siri to show you a list of movies you can watch with your family, etc.
Like what Apple wants it to be, Apple TV seriously looks like a technology from the future.
