Motorola has become a well-known entity when it comes to Android updates. The company moves fast, bringing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to several of its devices already with the Moto G reportedly in soak test.
Motorola is best known to be a minimalist when it comes to its devices. The same minimal additions make it possible for the company to update fast – even faster compared to other Nexus units. The company already confirmed the following device to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update:
- 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (third-gen)
- 2015 Moto X Style (third-gen)
- 2015 Moto X Play
- 2015 Moto G (third-gen)
- 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (second-gen)
- 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia (second-gen)
- 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE2 (second-gen)
- 2014 Moto Maxx
- 2014 Moto Turbo
The company released the software initially to Moto X Style (third generation) and Moto X 2014 (second generation) devices in Brazil and India. There have been reports that users in the United States and United Kingdom have also started gaining access. Moto G 2014 also received the update in India and Brazil – other countries should come next.
Motorola also recently announced that the company has started soak testing Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for both the 3G-only and LTE variants of the second generation Moto G. The announcement came from Motorola’s senior director of software product management David Schuster. According to his Google+ post: “I’m pleased to announce that we are starting the soak test for Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for the 2014 Moto G (2nd Gen) and 2014 Moto G with 4G LTE (2nd Gen) for Brazil and India retail channels devices. We will monitor the soak for next week and with good results, proceed to full launch.”
People can expect the following additional features from the Marshmallow update: Doze Mode, Now on Tap, Android Pay, Direct Share and Simpler volume controls.
