Sony continues to roll out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to its devices, specifically the Xperia C4 and the Xperia C5. The company has been working on keeping its devices up to date as some of the Sony Xperia Z-series lineup was already scheduled to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
According to reports, Sony has been mulling over what update it would release to its devices. The Japanese manufacturer previously confirmed last year that a number of its products will be updated to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Android 5.1 Lollipop.
According to Xperia Blog, that seemed to change as Sony Xperia C4 and C4 Dual were instead receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Specifically, Xperia C4 will be receiving the software via the form of build number 27.2.A.0.155 while C4 Dual will be receiving the software via the build number 27.2.B.0.155.
The present update is available for five out of six Xperia C4/C4 Dual variants. Users of the E5343 may need to wait for further announcements. The software is available via Over-The-Air or OTA release. Sony’s support page has not yet been updated with the details, so a changelog is not available as of the moment.
As for the Xperia C5, it looks like Sony has also given the green light for the Android 5.1 Lollipop update as well. Fortunately, all variants of the model will be receiving the Android 5.1 software update. Specifically, Xperia C5 Ultra (E5553, E5506) will receive the update with build number 29.1.A.0.87 while Xperia C5 Ultra Dual (E5533, E5563) will receive build number 29.1.B.0.87.
As with other Android updates, users may experience varying availability of the updates. The release of the said updates can also differ depending on the carrier and the region. Users are advised to check with their networks on the exact schedule of release.
