America’s Got Talent 2016: Laura Bretan, 13-Year Old Opera Singer Gets First Golden Buzzer!

Laura Bretan, the 13-year old Opera singer from Chicago has proven that talent knows no age. With her nightingale-like voice, she won the hearts of both the judges and the audience on America’s Got Talent 2016.

The clip of Laura Bretan’s audition has gone viral on YouTube. The clip shows a nervous-to-the-point-of-shaking Laura, wringing her hands, as she watched one performer after the next. She grew anxious, as she watched on the backstage TV screen some of the talented singers receive the harshest of comments from Simon Cowell, the judge who is feared the most by the contestants.

Finally came her turn. As she staggered into the stage, fear and nervousness were apparent in her demeanor. She barely got words out of her mouth, as she introduced herself and admitted that she was quite nervous, in response to Howie’s question.

Simon looked almost disinterested, as she took the mike to begin her performance. After holding thumbs up to her mother, the music was cued in and what happened next was surreal.

America’s Got Talent 2016 Judges

The timid teenage girl transformed into an experienced impeccable classical singer, with power and confidence emanating from her voice as she performed Giacomo Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma.”. A stunned Simon Cowell asked his co-judges in disbelief, “She’s 13?”

Laura’s voice flawlessly hit all the high as well as low notes alike, as she mesmerized the audience, many of whom had tears in their eyes. A maddening applaud rang out from the crowd, as everyone got to their feet to pay the exceptional opera singer a standing ovation, including the judges.

Even Simon Cowell, the hard-hearted judge, could not hold himself back from singing her praises:

“That didn’t just happen,” Simon Cowell said. “Honest to God you came out like a jelly, I didn’t think you were going to be able to talk. And then I’m thinking to myself, ‘Oh my God if she starts to sing this is not going to work.’ And then that just happened. I have never heard anything like that in all the years I’ve been doing this show. Seriously. It was unbelievable.”

After Mel B had given her comments about the performance, she added: “…and I am gonna change your life right now” and hovered her hand over the golden buzzer for just a bit before slamming on it! And thus, America’s Got Talent 2016 received it’s very first golden buzzer recipient.

America’s Got Talent 2016 Auditions

Ever since then, Laura’s audition video on YouTube has been watched and re-watched by millions of people across the globe.

“It was just awesome to see how many people responded and reacted to my video,” Laura told NBC Chicago. “It was an honor.”

Laura has previously won Romania’s Got Talent, which follows the same pattern as its American counterpart, reports Romania-Insider.Com. She was involved in the church choir from the age of four and has since then been taking voice lessons for opera-singing. She is currently being mentored by Nicoleta Roman, a Romanian lyric artist in Chicago.

All she could say after winning Romania’s Got Talent was: “I’m very nervous. I’ve never believed that something like this is possible, I have no words to explain what happened tonight”.
