American Idol season 4 contestant Constantine Maroulis has been arrested for domestic violence charges early morning Tuesday. He was subsequently released on bail, reports say.
The 39-year-old former AI finalist and theater actor allegedly engaged with girlfriend Angel Reed in a verbal spat, which led to the singer inflicting physical violence at their residence in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
According to TMZ, Maroulis slammed Reed to the floor and kicked her in the groin, prompting the girlfriend to call 911. Maroulis insisted his action was only to defend himself. Authorities responded to the call and apprehended the singer.
Maroulis stated that Reed attacked him by throwing something at him, after the latter told Reed “he was leaving her.” Though he asserted “he did not kick her,” the singer’s rep insisted Wednesday’s incident was a “self-defense.” He claimed his right thigh was injured following Reed’s alleged attack.
‘Breaking Through’ musical
Constantine Maroulis may not have won the American Idol — which for 2005 issued a change in age requirement, qualifying Maroulis — but he has since gained popularity and experience, which served as his ticket not just for a stint in Broadway musicals but also for an acting career.
His title role in Jekyll and Hyde gave him positive reviews from different media on top of receiving a nomination from Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance Award. He is set to take the lead role in “Breaking Through,” which will run from Nov 1 to 22, 2015.
