Jaden Smith was quite the gentleman to escort actress Amandla Stenberg to prom last Friday evening.
The “Hunger Games” star, known for playing the short yet memorable role of Rue, wore a metallic gown. On the other hand, Will Smith’s son, 16, wore a black-and-white dress with a blazer placed on top.
Prom night couldn’t have been as fun as it was without Stenberg’s Intagram shots showing her and her date.
Stenberg’s getup for the event echoes an interview she had with Rookie magazine, where she described her fashion choices.
“I’ve found that one of my favorite ways to express myself is through my clothes, because I’m not conforming to some ideal.”
She revealed in the same interview that her favorite book is “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.”
When the first “Hunger Games” movie was shown, Stenberg had been the center of criticism from people who were shocked that Rue was being played by an African-American actress, despite the fact that the character in the book was indeed described as that. Reacting to that, she said, “I received some negative feedback. I kind of distanced myself from it, because it seemed very silly to me. I didn’t really think I needed to focus my energy on it.”
Amandla also has a blog where she has posted her inspiring charity work for children around the world.
