Tesla Motors has struck a deal with Airbnb in providing Tesla charging stations to home of hosts who are doing well in the business. Find out how you can score your charging station home addition here.
If you are an Airbnb host who wants to make it to the industry, Tesla’s move is a welcome breath of fresh air to your business. Airbnb’s website said that “Airbnb and Tesla each have a commitment to sustainable travel.”
“Together, we’re building a world with no limits to how far you can travel and how you get there. From remote deserts to lush forests, we’re unlocking highways, backroads, adventures and unique homes,” they further said in their website.
Range Assurance is an app that works with Tesla’s network of superchargers and charging stations. It will warn drivers if they drive too far away from the range of a charging station.
“This makes it effectively impossible for a Model S driver to run out of range unintentionally,” Elon Musk said in a report from The Verge.
The Company is planning on choosing at least 100 homes for this venture, and that they have already installed 12 charging stations, Fast Company reports.
How to get your Tesla charger:
For existing hosts, you must have had at least 5+ bookings with a 4-star average rating. Email email@example.com if you are not automatically accepted.
For existing hosts with a Tesla charger, you must still have an average or 4+ rating, so you can be included in the wish list for Airbnb potential customers.
For new hosts, you must work your way to having 5+ bookings with an average rating of 4+. However, if you already have a Tesla charger installed, you will receive a $100 Airbnb gift certificate which you can use to take a trip for yourself, according to Airbnb’s website. This will never expire, but hosts must make sure they have a booking confirmed before December 31, 2015 this year. Tesla will review interested hosts until the end of this year as well.
Costs for the Tesla Charger installation
According to Airbnb’s estimation, it’s around $200 USD and $900 USD. Here is a list of selected Tesla-recommended electricians.
The charger itself is free. Hosts need only shoulder the installation costs.
