For all you Air Jordan collectors out there, the Air Jordan 5 retros this week in the Metallic Silver colorway. The shoe will be offered in both men and kids sizes.
The original Air Jordan 5 performance basketball sneaker was designed by Tinker Hatfield. It debuted back in February 1990. The silhouette was then re-released in 2000, 2006 to 2009 and 2013 to 2016. Its upcoming variant packs much of the same features as the original model, albeit with a newer tint.
According to Nike.com, the Air Jordan 5 Retro OG “Metallic Silver” is the first shoe in the Air Jordan 5 Metallic Pack collection to release to the public. Two more Olympic medal-inspired Air Jordan 5s will be available soon.
As for the materials on the sneaker, the Air Jordan 5 Retro OG Metallic Silver features premium Durabuk and full-grain leather on the upper. Nike Air units are stationed on the forefoot and heel areas to provide plush cushioning.
Nike Reviews pointed out that the shoe carries over the iconic airplane look of the 1990 silhouette. The shark teeth shapes on the midsole was said to be inspired by World War 2 fighter planes.
The outsole features blue translucent rubber and a black molded arch for extra torsional support. Traction consists of wave-like herringbone groves on the forefoot and heel, but not so much in the midfoot area.
Inside the shoe is a mushy inner sleeve that acts as pillows for the heels and ankles. Additionally, the heel counter is located inside the shoe rather than out.
Nightwing2303 of Weartesters.com stated that ventilation is one of the shoe’s strongest attributes. Perforated vents on the medial and lateral sides, as well as on the tongue, allow air to smoothly flow in and out of the shoe.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro OG Metallic Silver can be purchased via the Nike SNKRS app starting on Saturday, July 23. The Men’s version of the shoe will retail for $220. Prices for Kid’s sizes ranges from $60 to $160.
