The upcoming performance basketball shoe is poised to break new ground as far as release cycles are concerned.The Air Jordan 31 will reportedly be unveiled on Wednesday, it’s official release date will be set on September 3.
If reports about its release date are accurate, the Air Jordan 31 will be available to the public just eight months after the release of the Air Jordan 30 back in February. It can be remembered that previous Air Jordan models released a year to a year and a half after their predecessors.
On Saturday, sneakerheads got their first look at the Air Jordan 31 thanks to a leaked snapshot by Twitter user aahhsshhaa. The post was quickly taken down, but not before shoe aficionados got their hands on the image.
According to Sole Collector, the leaked colorway of the Air Jordan 31 pays homage to the Banned or Bred colorway of the iconic Air Jordan 1. The mid- to high-top sneaker features a combination of leather and woven synthetics on the upper.
Fit and lockdown is taken care of by Nike’s Dynamic Flywire technology. A heavily padded collar is set in place for maximum ankle support and protection.
Weartesters predicted that the Air Jordan 31 will include an upgraded version of the Flight Speed cushioning setup featured on recent Air Jordan models. The shoe might also rock a sturdier variant of Nike’s Free technology. The deep slices and reverse flex grooves on the outsole will encourage natural flexion of the toes and feet.
Shoe designer Tinker Hatfield and his crew were reportedly inspired by bird bones while designing the Air Jordan 31. Bird bones have air pockets which reduces a bird’s weight during flight. It still remains to be seen how this will be implemented on Michael Jordan’s 31st signature sneaker.
There’s still no word on the shoe’s pricing. It’s worth mentioning that recent Air Jordan signature sneakers retailed between $200 to $250. While waiting for further details on Wednesday, here’s the official teaser video of the Air Jordan 31.
