Jordan Brand has officially unveiled Michael Jordan’s 31st signature sneaker. The Air Jordan 31 pays tribute to silhouettes of old while carving out its own individuality.
“The shoe represented that spirit that he brought to the basketball court by being so different,” Jordan Brand president Larry Miller told Nike News. “Michael kind of threw the rules out on how you were supposed to play the game. The shoe kind of threw the rules out on what a basketball shoe was supposed to be.”
The Air Jordan 31 is a silhouette of many firsts. The shoe is the first to combine leather and Flyweave material on the upper. Synthetic leather is featured on the heel and collar area, which slowly transitions to Flyweave material on the forefoot and toe box area.
Making a comeback on the Air Jordan 31 is the iconic Wings logo, which hasn’t been stamped on a Jordan shoe since the Air Jordan 1. The Nike swoosh is also present on the Air Jordan 31, but it fades to black on the heel to reveal an eye-popping Jumpman logo.
Sneaker News indicated that the Air Jordan 31 is the first shoe to feature the Jumpman logo, the Wings logo and the Nike swooshes. The shoe might have a throwback design, but underneath, it features layers upon layers of the latest Jordan Brand technology.
Specs include the company’s patented FlightSpeed cushioning system with full-length Zoom Air. Dyanamic Flywire lacing takes care of lockdown while the ever-reliable Herringbone traction pattern provides multi-directional coverage.
The Air Jordan 31 Banned colorway is due to release on September 3, 2016. The lightweight albeit supportive sneaker will be available at Jordan.com and select Jordan Brand retailers around the globe.
