Amid the overwhelming criticisms, the recently-concluded Rio Olympics was generally a success. To commemorate the winners of the global sporting event, Jordan Brand is set to release a fitting colorway of the Air Jordan 11 Retro Low.
The upcoming retro is officially called the Air Jordan 11 Retro Low “White/Metallic Gold.” Some sneakerheads also refer to it as the Air Jordan 11 Gold Coin Low Closing Ceremony.
According to Nike.com, the gold patent leather along the upper of the shoe represents the highest recognition in this year’s Summer Games. The glossy tone is complemented with white synthetic leather. This is a far cry from the mesh upper on the original Air Jordan 11, which released back in 1995.
The Air Jordan 11 Retro Low “White/Metallic Gold” features an icy blue transparent outsole with hints of herringbone traction pattern on the heel and forefoot area. In the cushioning department, lightweight Phylon and a full-length Air unit takes care of responsiveness and impact protection.
“I do like seeing a leather upper on these versus the mesh, just because this is easier to clean,” said sneaker expert Nightwing2303. “Stitch game is on point. The mid-foot tab looks extra crispy and they somehow made the back area look cool with that awkwardly-placed little tiny Jumpman.”
The Air Jordan 11 Retro Low “White/Metallic Gold” fits true to size. Wide-footers may want to go up half a size to avoid pinching in the medial or lateral side of the shoe. With regards to floor grip, the translucent rubber on the outsole sticks like glue on clean indoor courts while occasional wiping is needed on dusty courts.
The Gold Coin colorway of Michael Jordan’s eleventh signature sneaker will be available via the SNKRS app starting on Saturday, August 27. Kids’ sizes cost $130 while Men’s sizes retail for $170.
