Air France flight 463 that was flying from Mauritius to Paris was forced to make an emergency landing in Mombasa due to a suspicious device found in the toilet. This was suspected to be a bomb. BBC reported that “the pilots of the Boeing 777 requested to land at Moi International Airport in Mombasa after the package was discovered in the toilet.”
Update: Several passengers are now in question due to suspicion, according to New York Times.
There were 459 passengers along with 14 crew members on the flight. Luckily, the plane as well as the airport staffers was evacuated safely. Charles Owino, Police Spokesman said that the bomb experts are examining the suspicious package. Kenya Airports via its official Twitter page have informed all the passengers that the “normal airport operations have resumed at Moi International Airport.”
Regarding the passengers who were on the flight and the whole incident, Air France, in its statement said, “They are (being) taken care of by Mombasa’s airport ground staff and will be accommodated. An investigation is being led by the authorities to identify the source of the threat.”
They further said, “This Mombasa-Paris flight is scheduled to leave in the late afternoon of Sunday, December 20.”
