Bayern Munich is standing at the verge of being knocked out ahead of the 2nd leg Champions League semifinal tie against the Spanish Giants Barcelona FC at Allianz Arena, Munich. Bayern boss Pep Guardiola, who won the championship as Barca coach, is scheming tactics to overturn results and keep Bayern’s bid alive “till the end.” Pep’s men were thrashed 3-0 by vintage Lionel Messi and Co. at the Nou Camp in the first leg.
“Our only desire is try until the end, ” said Guardiola. “The only way we can make the final is by playing better than Barcelona and doing what we did in the second half [of the first leg]. ”
Bayern Munich, though, have shown the grit to bounce back in the return leg of the quarter finals this season against FC Porto at home after conceding away game 3-1. Munich routed Porto 6-1 at home to sail to the semifinals.
But Barcelona is too hot for the German champions to repeat such feat at the Allianz Arena. Barcelona are riding on eight straight wins and have maintained seven clean-sheets. Moreover, Pep will miss the services of winger Frank Ribery and mercurial Dutchman Arjen Robben in this key situation. Both stars are ruled out of this season due to injury. Bayern has lost 4 games in a row including a shoot-out.
Though the former Barca boss clarified of his second season as Bayern coach: “We are the Bundesliga champions and we’ve had an extraordinary year, despite some difficulties. I’ve never had to solve everything based on courage alone nor have I ever told my players that we will have to be braver than our rivals.”
The Catalans will be in a hunt for a club-record, 48th win of the season of all competitions. Messi has 55 goals to his credit this season and Neymar has notched up goals in each of the last six games. Messi-Suarez-Neymar’s three-pronged attack has taken Barca to the pinnacle this season. Combined, the three have netted 119 goals so far. Banking on such treasure, Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is eying another European championship glory.
