British singer Adele is reportedly signing a multi-million deal with Sony. What happens then to her call to free fellow artist Kesha months ago?
The Sun UK reported that the 28-year-old multi-awarded singer is set to sign a record deal worth £90 million with Sony Music.
Accordingly, this is even more than her current networth which is pegged at £85 million, based on the Sunday Times Rich List.
“We’ve secured Adele, who’s without doubt the biggest music star in a generation,” an insider told The Sun. “This is massive.”
“Adele’s deal with her original label XL expired and we’d an existing relationship with her in America,” the source continued. “The deal is being worked on by our Columbia label in the US, but is worth £90million and gives Sony the rights to release her future music exclusively around the world.”
Amid this impending deal with Sony, fans might have been wondering if Kesha, who has a standing battle against the record company and Dr. Luke, is hurt by this development.
It can be recalled that back in February, Adele was vocal in saying that she dedicated her victory at the BRIT Awards to the “Die Young” performer, as reported by Daily Mail UK.
“I’d like to thank my management and record label for embracing the fact that I’m a woman and being encouraged by it,” the “Rolling in the Deep” singer said in her speech while accepting her award as the Best British Female Solo Artist. “And I would like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.”
As with Kesha, she emphasized in a statement released after Adele expressed her support that “All I ever wanted was to be able to make music without being afraid, scared, or abused.”
After what Adele said, the report noted that this “might make Sony rethink their position.” It now seems Adele already forgot this.
Kesha’s ill-feelings against Sony have not abated after all, especially since her case with Dr. Luke is not moving in favor of her. Jezebel even reported that Kesha’s mom slammed Sony for wanting the artist to fail after having her Billboard Awards performance cancelled.
Kesha eventually performed at the event, noticeably silent about her altercations with Dr. Luke. She did not even grant anyone interview over the matter, and no one knew why, as reported by Romper.
