Will Forte has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series this year for his role as Phil Miller on the post-apocalyptic comedy The Last Man on Earth.
Ever since the actor quit his job as a broker at Smith Barney and started training at the Groundlings, Forte achieved success and popularity as a writer (for shows like The Late Show with David Letterman and That ‘70s Show), cast member (for the sensational Saturday Night Live) and actor (in The Last Man on Earth and the Oscar nominated Nebraska), according to Emmys.com.
Forte has earned five Emmy nominations till date. For the critically acclaimed The Last Man on Earth, he has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (2016), Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (2015) and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (2015).
He also served as a writer for The Late Show with David Letterman, for which he was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program (1998). His guest appearance on 30 Rock earned him a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (2013).
Speaking on the success of the show The Last Man on Earth, Forte said, “We’re so excited because when we originally pitched the show, it felt like its logical home would be a cable channel. And then Fox was very into it, so we just assumed that they would try to change it into something else. And they really liked the tone that we had in mind.”
As reported by the The Wrap, The Last Man on Earth is a show about Phil Miller who realizes he just might not be the last man on the planet following a deadly plague that killed almost everyone. Also featuring in the show are actors Kristen Schaal, January Jones and Mary Steenburgen.
