The “PILLOWTALK” singer and former One Direction member Zayn Malik admitted that there was a lot of pressure ahead of the release of his first single and hinted that he is preparing for some new music. He also said that he finally feels free after quitting One Direction.
“There was a lot of built-up anxiety to create this thing. You don’t really know what’s going to happen,” the Mirror quoted Malik as saying. “So when that song [his debut single ‘PILLOWTALK’] went out, and I saw the reaction from the fans, that took a little weight off me for a bit. Obviously, there’s still a lot of pressure. I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder, so I’ve got a lot of work to do.”
The PILLOWTALK hitmaker added that although people perceive musicians as one-sided people, but there are other elements in a musician as well.
“I know that musicians are seen as one-sided people a lot of the time. But we do have other elements to us as well. I didn’t feel good. Do you know what I mean? And if you don’t feel good … You need to be able to express what it is that you are. I’m free at last.”
According to a report by the Hollywood Life, Malik said there were restrictions on changing the looks as a member of One Direction. He added that it’s great to see how much he is loved by his fans but admitted there were a lot of criticisms and negativity, with people talking about situations they had no idea about.
The 23-year-old singer also hinted that the fans should brace themselves for some new songs. “I’m in the studio right now,” he said. “That’s all I’m saying.”
He said that he hates the word “celebrity” as it makes a few people think that they are superior than the rest.
“I hate the word celebrity,” he said. “I think it’s a dangerous road to go down, thinking of yourself as a celebrity, because then you somehow automatically think that label makes you superior to other people.”
