Apocalypse, which is scheduled for release on May 27, has already released its fair share of “standard” trailers. This latest trailer has already gone viral due to it being easily mistaken as a trailer for a vintage documentary film. The 49-second clip comes complete with bad soundtrack and a spooky voice narrating.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the teaser tells viewers the story of the first mutant so powerful he can destroy entire civilizations. His name is En Sabah Nur, popularly known as Apocalypse, an immortal mutant who has served as a primary antagonist to the X-Men in the comic books.
“X-Men: Apocalypse” will be directed Bryan Singer, who worked on the hugely successful “Days of Future Past” as well as the first two films in the X-Men series. Despite the fact that Apocalypse is not yet available in theaters, rumors are already spreading about the next film in the franchise.
The most prevalent rumor involves the one where Fox is adapting the popular Dark Phoenix storyline from the comic books. The Dark Phoenix saga tells the story of the events after “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
The rumor is backed by a statement made by producer Simon Kinberg. According to IGN, Kinberg told them that every story between X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past is up for grabs. Thanks to the reboot in the timeline, every story can be retold in a new light.
By the looks of the teasers, this 80s documentary included, X-Men: Apocalypse is another blockbuster in the making. The question now is if it will live up to the hype come May 27.
