What's This?

X-Men: Apocalypse actor James McAvoy had to ditch his hair to sport the iconic dome of Professor X. Film director Bryan Singer made sure to share the moment with the Charles Xavier from the original trilogy, Patrick Stewart.

According to Screen Rant, the first two films of the reboot trilogy showed many versions of Charles Xavier than those we’re familiar with. “X-Men: First Class” shows him still capable of walking while he appeared ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ as capable of walking and using his powers but not at the same time.

X-Men: Apocalypse‘ will be the first time we see James McAvoy in the traditional Professor X look. He is now a wheelchair-bound bald man with incredible psychic powers and running the Xavier Mansion as a school for mutants.

IGN reported that thanks to FaceTime, Patrick Stewart was able to get in touch with his younger “self” in the form of McAvoy as the actor shaved his head. While the young actor joked that shaving his head made him feel connected to the famously bald actor, Stewart pointed out that he has been bald since the age of 19.

Joking aside, the film will provide an explanation on why Xavier lost his hair as well as show how the powers of some of the characters were awakened. The main plot, however, is stopping the first mutant from destroying what he sees is a corrupt world.

Like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Professor X and his baldness has always been linked to Patrick Stewart. Now with a new, younger actor sporting the shiny dome will fans of the mutant franchise accept the new face of Charles Xavier? Will James McAvoy resemble the Stewart or will he just look like an older version of himself?

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is the final installment of the X-Men timeline reboot and will open in US theaters on May 27th, 2016.
