Earlier reports revealed that FOX did not include The X-Files return for the 2016-2017 primetime TV schedule, which means fans have to wait for the final date of its airing.
But FOX CEO Dana Walden proved that rumors on The X-Files being cancelled are just as rumors, as David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles for the season 11 reboot in 2017.
“We’ve had conversations with Chris Carter and David and Gillian,” the CEO said in a press conference, as reported by Celebrity Dirty Laundry. “I believe everybody is on board to do another installment of the show.”
CEO Gary Newman also said that the production is still going over the scheduling
“I can tell you that all of them would like to do more of these, and certainly the network and studio want to do more,” he said.
Meanwhile, creator Chris Carter noted that after the reboot ended early this year, he is looking forward to the coming X-Files series.
“I can tell you that with a certain amount of certainty we’ll be asked to come back with more X-Files in the future,” he said.
He said via TV Line that he cannot imagine that the X-Files will be cancelled as its latest season has ended with high ratings.
CDL also noted that FOX is willing to produce more popular drama but The X-Files return is still not confirmed if it will be on a permanent setting or a temporary one.
Early this year, FOX released six new episodes of The X-Files for its reboot which has seen the return of original cast David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
