What's This?

The X Factor UK kicks off at the end of this month and the producers are reportedly planning to dedicate a week to late singers David Bowie and Prince. X Factor UK Judge Simon Cowell is a big fan of Bowie, and judge Louis Walsh is making all efforts to bring the plans into play.

If all works according to plan, fans will see the contestants performing the songs of Bowie and Prince, both of whom passed away earlier this year, to impress the judges and remain in the competition. Walsh is in talks with the producers to get it confirmed, before the official launch of the series.

“Simon is a big fan of Bowie and has never held back his admiration for him,” a TV source was quoted as saying by the Sun. “But it’s actually Louis who has been pushing this. He thinks it would be a fitting tribute to both Prince and David who both sadly left us this year.”

The source added, “Also, both have a huge repertoire of hits so it’ll give the contestants a wide range of songs to choose from. There’s upbeat stuff and big ballads they can belt out too so it’ll be fair on everyone. But fans shouldn’t get too excited, nothing is set in stone just yet.”

Cartermatt reported that some other versions of the franchise have made similar moves, which included different themes in honor of Michael Jackson. The fact that Bowie and Prince have been a great inspiration to the young generation singers and also a big influence upon them makes it all the more reasonable for the show to pay the legends their due tribute.

The upcoming season of the X Factor UK will also see the return of the dream team of the judges. Sharon Osbourne and Walsh will join Cowell and actress Nicole Scherzinger, who will be returning after missing two years, the Telegraph.co.uk reported. Dermot O’Leary is also returning as the presenter after spending a year working on other projects.
