One of the first matches announced for WWE SummerSlam 2016 was that one involving Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. That reveal caught many offguard with both stars barely appearing on WWE shows.
Lesnar was busy with the UFC at the time, appearing via special arrangement, while Orton had yet to re-emerge since going down with an injury in October. There were no storylines to work on so far, but the two have started to spark something following WWE Battleground.
WWE Brand War Sidelight
Following the celebrated WWE brand split, Lesnar is with RAW, while Orton is with Smackdown. While the two are expected to work on their respective shows, the match has brought out a cross-brand feud, which many got a glimpse of last week.
The color between Lesnar and Orton is expected to continue before Aug. 21, as the two try to outwit the other. Other than that, Lesnar is the obvious favorite to come out with a win mainly due to his power. But what if Orton comes out with a win?
Feud May Last Longer
In the WWE, anything can happen. Orton is someone who can pull out a surprise and win over Lesnar. Given their physiques, an Orton win can happen via the dirty route.
The Viper could pull off a surprise, but the question now is whether WWE fans would want to see this feud evolve. If the WWE creative team decides to prolong the storyline, an Orton win could be the way to go.
Then again, even a Lesnar win could extend the storyline if the WWE warrants it. Orton could lose via controversial decision or stalk Lesnar even after the SummerSlam 2016 smoke clears.
In short, it all depends on the hype. If the fans like the matchup, it may run all the way up until the next pay-per-view. If not, the Lesnar vs. Orton feud ends at WWE SummerSlam with the “Beast Incarnate” coming out with a win.
WWE SummerSlam 2016 will take place on Aug. 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
