WWE SummerSlam will see Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton next month, a card that took everyone by surprise. At the time, Lesnar’s health was in question heading into UFC 200, while Orton had been out of the WWE scene for several months now.
Lesnar and Orton are established stars and WWE SummerSlam is considered the next big even from the annual WrestleMania. Did the WWE jump the gun by booking this match too soon?
Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose WWE title match happening?
As everyone knows by now, Lesnar made headlines when he defeated Mark Hunt at UFC 200. “The Beast” showed the MMA world that he could still mix it up inside the Octagon. But the sweetest part of it all was that he reportedly took him $2.5 million with the performance according to MMA Fighting.
Moving forward, it will be interesting how his triumph will rub off on the WWE. He is likely to throw his weight around and Orton will come to the rescue to downplay his success.
Assuming that this will indeed be the call made by the creative team, why not Dean Ambrose? The quick answer to that is the “Lunatic Fringe” is engaged in a “Shield” drama involving Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. But this angle could end at WWE Battleground so why not create a rematch between Lesnar and Ambrose at WWE SummerSlam?
An article on Forbes hints at the idea, explaining that it could happen if the WWE wants it to happen. Physically, Ambrose will be overmatched against Lesnar. Under normal circumstances, this means that Lesnar can easily become champion. But should he?
At 38, he could have one last WWE title run if Vince McMahon wants it. Ambrose will unlikely make that easy with his psyche games and witty tactics that have endeared him to fans.
Will it happen? Right now that remains to be seen, but there are a lot of things to factor in. Thankfully there is time to spare for the WWE.
