WWE 2016: AJ Styles, John Cena Rivalry Brewing?
AJ Styles is the new WWE heavyweight champion, stealing the title away from Dean Ambrose. Moving forward, a rematch is to be expected though the creative team could be up to something more.Advertisement
Styles is likely to get payback from the “Lunatic Fringe” starting at WWE SmackDown this Tuesday though the WWE may keep the title on the “Phenomenal One” for now. The reason? John Cena.
Cena has been on and off the shows as he attends to the second season of “American Grit”. While Cena was at the live even in Manila, the fact is that he is dividing his time on and off screen.
AJ Styles needs Cena
Styles is a proven commodity. He has shown that through the years with other wrestling bodies. In the WWE, there is no question he is one of the big draws. He does hold a 2-0 edge over Cena which gives the future WWE Hall of Famer enough reason to feud with the “Phenomenal One”.
Aside from that, Cena is on the verge of tying Ric Flair’s record of 16 WWE titles. While it may not seem as the immediate goal, it makes sense if he does win the title from Styles.
WWE Title Better Off with Styles?
A rematch with Ambrose will likely be more to satisfy storylines. He had his reign but somehow the WWE didn’t quite profit from it. This is not to take anything away from Ambrose who did a better job than Roman Reigns.
But with the rating game in focus, there is no question that the creative team is looking for someone that can bump up the numbers. Styles has done that with TNA and the New Japan Pro Wrestling but apparently cannot do it alone.
A Cena and Styles rivalry makes all the sense right now. The question is when will Cena come in and where will Ambrose end up?
