Facebook seems to be catching up on updates recently, as news of its new features and updates rolling out have been reported recently. This week alone, the social media has managed to partner with Spotify to improve user experience and has just rolled out its new design for its Messenger, Android version. Now, it introduced a WordPress plugin for Facebook Instant Articles.
On a blog post by Facebook Partner Engineering Chris Ackermann this Tuesday, March 8, he stated that the company has partnered with WordPress.com VIP parent company – Automattic. The partnership’s goal was to be able to build a free plugin for Instant Articles that, in turn, will simplify the process of generating and publishing Instant Articles from WordPress. The plugin, which is open source and customizable, creates a special RSS feed which automatically optimizes the Facebook posts to appear as Instant Article content.
Ackermann also posted that the American tech company has also worked with a group of publishers on WordPress to beta test the plugin as a seamless way to adapt web content for the Instant Articles format, with a built-in suite of interactive tools that help stories come to life on mobile. The introduction of this new plugin is part of the social network’s attempt to target millions of publishers for the said platform.
The social media announced, through its platform, that the WordPress open source publishing is now powering more than 25 percent of sites on the Web. With the new plugin that the American firm is introducing, it will become easier for content creators of blogs or media houses to correctly adapt and format their articles for the social network’s mobile reader, reports Digital Trends. The social media is hoping that the new WordPress Plugin will help lessen the hesitations that publishers have regarding the technicalities of working with the Instant Articles platform.
Earlier last month, it has been announced by the social networking company that Instant articles will become open to all publishers regardless of size and location at the upcoming Facebook F8 conference. The conference is set to happen on April 12 in San Francisco. Meanwhile, the new WordPress plugin can be downloaded immediately on GitHub.
