“The Woods” was revealed as “The Blair Witch Project” sequel at the recently held Comic-Con, much to the surprise of hundreds of unsuspecting fans.
Lionsgate said to have “pulled off a coup” at the pop culture event as “The Woods” was fully screened, with the ending revealing that it was Blair Witch all along—the first sequel to the 2000 horror film The Blair Witch Project.
“The Woods,” the sequel is based from the original story of three newbie filmmakers who disappeared in the woods of Burkittsville, Maryland.
There was a trailer of “The Woods” back in May but no one thought it was actually the sequel of one of the biggest horror stories to date.
To keep up with this generation, Director Adam Wingard and collaborator Simon Barrett came up with four millenials who are having a camping adventure in the Black Hills Forest while also filming for one the characters’ documentary class.
Despite being armed with the latest technologies, the gang will never be prepared to what the beasts can do to them in the midst of the woods, a report from The Daily Beast said.
Other characters include Lisa (Callie Hernandez), Peter (Brandon Scott), and Ashley (Corbin Reid).
The Daily Beast’s Jen Yamato said that Lionsgate’ plan to have Blair Witch sequel named as “The Woods” is a surprise to many as The Blair Witch Project has been released 17 years ago, Bloody Disgusting said in a report.
“The idea that a secret sequel could bring a long-stale franchise like this back to life is, frankly, the most surprising thing to happen to horror in ages,” she said.
“Blair Witch” is set to be hit the big screens on September 16.
