With George R. R. Marin admitting that “Winds of Winter,” the sixth installation to the epic fantasy novel series “A Song of Fire and Ice,” has not been completed, one may not be wrong to assume that Season 6 of Game of Thrones will air before the release of the book. Nevertheless, reports have emerged that the book would still be released this year.
HBO officially announced that the highly anticipated Season 6 of Game of Thrones will air in April 2016, as per schedule. Speaking about the delay of the book, Chairman Richard Plepler said at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, “I always knew that given the relationship that David and Dan had with George and the closeness and respect that they have for each other that if they overtook the books or not, there would be a synchronic and organic conversation going on between them. That they would never do anything that would violate George’s sense of the integrity of the story and I think that’s absolutely true. Their relationship is such a wonderful thing to observe, the mutual respect that they have for each other that I know George would say, ‘I trust these guys moving this arc forward.’”
Martin had said he wanted to release “Winds of Winter” before the start of “Season 6 of Game of Thrones,” as reported by IGN. “Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish,” Martin had said. “But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interview-anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.” The fifth and most recent book in the series, “A Dance with Dragons,” was released in 2012.
In a blog post, Martin expressed gratitude to his supporters for their words of encouragement following his announcement that the sixth book would not be released yet. “There were forty pages of screened comments on the post by the time I logged on this morning,” he wrote. “I haven’t even been able to read half of them as yet. I am going to close comments on this post, lest I have even more messages to deal with. But I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all the kind words and good wishes.”
