The day 3 results from Wimbledon 2015 are here.

On a hot and humid day, when the temperature rose to 41.2 degree Celsius, top-seeded Novak Djokovic registered an easy victory over Canadian Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets on center court. The defending champion won 6-4 6-2 6-3 to set up a third-round clash with Australian 27th seed Bernard Tomic.

“On this warm day it’s good to spend a little bit less time out there.

“I’m glad with the way I’m playing and I’m getting into form. As the tournament progresses, hopefully I’ll be able to elevate the level of my performances,” he said in an interview.

Last year’s semifinalist Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov defeated American Steve Johnson 7-6 (10-8) 6-2 7-6 (7-2).

Third fastest serve

Seventh seed Milon Raonic edged past Tommy Haas. The Canadian recorded the 3rd fastest serve in Wimbledon’s history on Wednesday. The 24-year-old sent down a 145mph serve against 37-year-old Haas on Court One, on his way to 6-0 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) win. Taylor Dent’s 148mph from 2010 and Andy Roddick’s 146mph from 2004 tops the list of fastest serves above Raonic’s.

Sweltering heat

The sizzling conditions not only bothered the players but also the ground-staff as a ball-boy collapsed in court 17 on day 3. Later Wimbledon tweeted “The ball boy from court 17 has been treated and is feeling much better. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Heather Watson reached the 3rd round in women’s singles. Watson will face Serena Williams once she’s through against Timea Babos.
