Theo James and Shailene Woodley’s fourth movie for “Divergent” series has been downgraded from a theater release to TV movie. This move stemmed from the poor performance of “Divergent: Allegiant” in the box office.
The reported reasons were franchise fatigue and the lead actors’ chemistry losing its appeal. However, one reason holds water; films with the same genre were shown before the movie hit the theaters.
According to Gizmodo, the final movie will be re-adapted and will continue to expound new stories in the “Divergent” universe. Per information given out by Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs, the decision to release the movie on small screen stemmed from the slump in the performance of “Allegiant.”
He also revealed how the movie will play out on television. According to Beggs, the movie plot will be spread out into 10 to 13 episodes then will be expanded to multiple seasons.
The converted movie will then become the first season. Theo James and Shailene Woodley were not yet signed up for the TV presentation. The same is true with Miles Teller who is also unsure if he will go on TV.
How will the movie perform on television? It will depend on the genius writer Veronica Roth to come up with interesting plots.
Meanwhile, the cancellation was good for Theo James as reported by The BitBag. It is because he was getting so much closer to the actress. It was the reason seen why his wedding with Irish actress, Ruth Kearney has been postponed several times.
Now that James might not reprise his role in the series, the much-anticipated wedding might push through. The engaged couple has been planning for the wedding date but things just turned complicated. The actor’s dream to bag the James Bond role did not materialize also.
Theo James and Shailene Woodley might become team again in another movie. For the meantime, stand by for more “Ascendant” news.
