Six HSBC UK staff thought it would be funny to dress in black overalls and balaclavas and stage a mock ISIS-style beheading video with their Asian co-worker kneeling in an orange jumpsuit playing as victim. The men reportedly did the prank during a company-funded team building.

The prank was reminiscent of Jihadi John’s execution videos where his victims were dressed up in orange jumpsuits kneeling before execution. It must also be recalled that British aid workers, Alan Henning and David Haines, were also killed in the same manner last year.

Bankers sack over ISIS beheading prank video

On Tuesday, HSBC UK announced it has already fired all six men involved in the prank, The SUN reported. The company also apologized for those who were offended by the prank.

“We do not tolerate inappropriate behaviour. As soon as The Sun brought this video to our attention we took the decision to sack the individuals involved. This is an abhorrent video and HSBC would like to apologise for any offence,” HSBC said in a statement obtained by The SUN.

In the video, five men played the part of ISIS members as they laugh and joke about the execution using a coat hanger. One banker had even shouted “Allahu Akbar” or “God is Great.” This is the same phrase executioners shout before beheading their victims.

The video only lasted for seven seconds and was posted on Instagram. It was later deleted after HSBC co-workers expressed their disgust.

HSBC was accused of funding terrorists in the past

Some comments in the video said that sacking the bankers was too much of a punishment. However, people were also quick to remember that HSBC was accused of funding terrorists, Iran and Mexican drug-cartels to launder money back in 2012. At that time, HSBC acknowledged that it has “failed to meet the standards that regulators and customers expect.” The company promised to learn from those mistakes and vowed to improve their compliance with the law.

In June of this year, HSBC Swiss bank was also accused of the same thing. According to documents compiled by investigative journalists, the Swiss branch of HSBC has donated money to Osama Bin Laden since 2001. The bank has allegedly also opened accounts for a crystal meth gang in the U.S. among other crimes. In a statement, HSBC said it has stopped conducting business the way that it used to.
