HBO has finally graced GOT fans with a “Game of Thrones” season 6 trailer earlier today… and it was worth the wait! The preview showcases tremendous spoilers that could, finally, tell fans what to expect for the much-anticipated TV series this year.
First off, the trailer starts with a scene at Castle Black showing Jon Snow’s body after he had been stabbed by the Night Watch, as seen in season five’s finale episode. Before spoilers were revealed, the fans had been banking on Jon Snow being alive in the upcoming season. However, judging from Kit Harington’s statement earlier this week, he will portray the role of Snow as a corpse.
The devious and manipulative Melisandre also looked distraught as she admitted, “The great victory I saw in the flames… all of it was a lie.” This could mean that Melisandre may divert her attention to Jon Snow. Would she revive him?
This could be a possibility, since later on in the trailer, Melisandre is seen placing her hand over Jon Snow’s corpse.
Also, Davos is seen drawing Jon Snow’s sword, Longclaw, in an attempt to engage in battle against the Night’s Watch. Was he trying to protect his body while the Night’s Watch wanted to burn it before he becomes an undead? Was Davos protecting Snow’s body so Melisandre can have a shot at reviving him before he turns into a White Walker?
Further on into the clip is a battle between the Northerners and the Boltons; if you pause at the right moment, it seems to show Jon Snow as one of the Northerners’ troops, reports Vanity Fair. Does this mean that Melisandre would be able to bring him back to life?
The most intriguing part of “Game of Thrones” season 6 trailer is the part where six men draw their long swords. Although this may be usual in the world of the seven kingdoms since they are almost always engaged in war, what’s interesting is one of them looks like Ned Stark. Will he be brought to life?
Previous fan theories have already suggested that “Game of Thrones” season 6 will be the only season other than season one where all Starks will be reunited at last. However, this clip may just show a flashback of the past, which is a possibility, since many wargs have been seen doing such. However, further on into the “Game of Thrones” season 6 trailer, archers are seen wearing Stark armors. This could mean that Ned Stark could have been revived.
However, another misleading clip in the trailer shows Ned Stark in combat with a warrior wearing a Targaryen sigil in the Tower of Joy. This, again, suggests that his role may be within the purview of flashbacks.
Arya is also seen taking a beating in the House of Black and White. This may hint that she has continued her training with the Waif, or possibly with her long-time assassin friend, Jaqen.
Sansa also appears wearing an outfit of the North while Tyrion Lannister is seen trying to find something, saying that he, or she, is part of the Great Game. He could have been talking to Sansa, although that is less likely, since they were last seen apart, and Tyrion was seen in Meereen the last season. Who could he have been talking to?
Littlefinger is also seen walking around Winterfell, which could hint that Sansa could be nearby and that he will continue infiltrating her and the rest of the Northerners to his advantage.
By the end of the trailer, Bran Stark is seen standing upright, which could indicate that the scene is one from his visions. Apart from a “better” haircut, Bran is facing the Night King. How is the latter able to enter Bran’s visions?
The trailer shows a ship from Dorne bound for King’s Landing. This probably hints that Jaime Lannister is coming back to the capital carrying Myrcella Lannister’s dead body. Furthermore, it also shows Jaime talking to his sister, Cersei Lannister, saying, “Everything they’ve taken from us we’re going to take back… and more,” reports People.
Lancel Lannister is also seen ordering Cersei to tell Ser Robert Strong to stand down or there will be violence. Cersei, confident that she has the upper hand because of Ser Robert Strong, insists that she is more than willing to choose violence over standing down.
Later on in the clip, it is shown that Cersei and Strong are approaching the throne to face her son, Tommen Lannister and his Kingsguard. This may hint that Cersei may be released for a reason and that Tommen may need her in his plans.
The “Game of Thrones” season 6 trailer jumps to House Bolton where a man attached to a cross-like wood is burned. This could mean that the Boltons would be engaging in battle yet again. Whose body could it be? It could be one of the Boltons’ allies or a House member, since the faces or Roose and his son, Ramsey, are not very pleased in the clip.
Jorah and Daario seem to be travelling. This could show that they plan to free Daenerys from captivity, especially when the clip shows that he is able to find Daenerys’ ring, the one found by Khalasar in season five.
Furthermore, Daenerys is also seen traveling with the Dothraki – as a captive, of course – and arriving at a place with a huge statue of a horse. This could mean that she and the horde had arrived at a significant place in Dothraki history. Theories point out that this may be the place where she may be able to prove herself as the fulfiller of Dothraki prophecy and unite all horsemen.
Furthermore, the clip also shows that the Ironborns, Greyjoy’s troops, united, and it looks like they are eager to find a replacement for Balon Greyjoy. Will they journey to free Theon Greyjoy once and for all? However, later in the trailer, it is shown that Euron Greyjoy is baptized by the Ironborns. He may be the throne replacement.
The clip also shows Margaery Tyrell trying to make it as a captive of Faith Militant. However, the High Sparrow is also seen saying, “Every one of us is poor and powerless, and yet, we can overthrow an empire.” Later on, he is seen offering a helping hand to Margaery. This could indicate that the High Sparrow may be helping Margaery instead of aiding the Lannisters, and that Margaery may be able to join Faith Militant for her to be freed.
In fact, a scene from the clip also shows soldiers from the Tyrell camp led by Jaime Lannister. This may mean that Jaime Lannister may be helping Margaery after all.
The Seven Kingdoms, In General
With respect to the battle that will happen in “Game of Thrones” season 6, armies are seen clashing against each other. This was already hinted when HBO released behind-the-scenes footage for the latest season. The fact that the horses do not seem to be from Dothraki indicate that the Boltons and the rest of the Northmen may be engaged in battle. As mentioned earlier, Jon Snow may be the lead for the opposite camp.
Judging from fan theories, there were no hints of the Reeds.
“Game of Thrones” season 6 trailer was definitely worth the wait as it embodied what fans could expect in the upcoming season. From battles to Ned Stark and Jon Snow being revived, what could possibly happen? Catch the season premiere on HBO this April 24.
