Beyonce set the stage on fire during the opening ceremony of the BET Awards 2016 with her surprising performance of her song “Freedom.” She was joined by Kendrick Lamar, who rapped his verse on the watery stage.
The BET Awards 2016 was aired on the same slot as the highly popular Game of Thrones, but the Beyonce-Kendrick performance slayed the opening ceremony of the event and the queen surely succeeded in keeping the viewers hooked to the show.
Rumors of Beyonce performing at the awards event started spreading like fire when her team of back up dancers from the Formation World Tour appeared at the red carpet of the event, Vanity Fair reported.
According to People Magazine, Beyonce, who has been nominated for five awards herself, rocked the stage in a black lace-print unitard with shingles. She grooved and splashed on the stage covered with water in the midst of dancers with vibrant body paint.
She was then joined on stage by Kendrick, who appeared as guest, and the duo presented a riveting performance that ended with the audience going into a frenzy.
Beyonce has been having a pretty good time with her newly mastered skill of surprising fans around the globe. It all started with her 2013’s “Beyonce” and she continued the trend with her “Lemonade” album that absolutely stunned the audience.
The BET Awards 2016 also paid tribute to late popstar Prince. The star-studded tribute featured a touching speech from 42-year-old comedian Dave Chappelle.
“We miss him so dearly, so tonight’s BET Awards are going to celebrate the rich legacy of this remarkable genius,” the US Magazine quoted him as saying. From Tori Kelly and Stevie Wonder, to the Roots and Jennifer Hudson, stars aligned at the awards show to pay homage to the popstar.
