France Attacks Syria: Just two days after a series of coordinated attacks that left as much as 130 people dead in Paris, French fighter jets take to the skies to launch an air raid against an Islamic State stronghold in Syria.
According to a report from Reuters, the target of the raid was an Islamic State stronghold in Raqqa. Altogether, 10 fighter jets were said to have been launched with the mission taking place this evening. Moreover, these jets reportedly took off simultaneously from Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
France attacks Syria in a massive raid
The said operation had reportedly managed to strike a recruitment center for jihadists as well as a command center, a munitions depot and a training camp for fighters. According to a statement from the defense ministry, as much as twenty bombs were dropped. Furthermore, the air raid was said to have been carried out in coordination with the U.S. forces.
Meanwhile, the French defense ministry has also said that it strengthened its Sentinel operation all over the country 48 hours after the attack with the addition of 1,000 men and women. Before France attack Syria, during the early evening of November 14, Saturday, 300 paratroopers from the 3rd RPIMa Carcassone arrived in Paris by military aircraft. They were also later joined by 400 soldiers. Meanwhile, 300 more soldiers arrived in Paris during the afternoon of November 15, Sunday.
As much as 5,000 soldiers had been mobilized in the Sentinel operation for Paris and its suburbs, utilizing as much as 19 army units. These include:
