Britney Spears had a chance for a major comeback at her most-awaited VMA 2016 performance following her hiatus in the stage from the 2007 fiasco…but critics claimed she blew it.
The pop star returned in VMA nine years after the controversial performance she had in 2007 as she performed her sexual empowerment song “Make Me.”
The singer, who wore a yellow sequined leotard for the show, and knee high boots and writhed all over the floor.
However, Vox noted how Britney Spears opted to have her dancing put on a minimal note, but stressed more on writhing on G-Eazy collaborator.
“For half the performance, it didn’t feel like her own performance at all — a jarring shift after Beyoncé’s (literally) incendiary performance almost brought Madison Square Garden down by sheer force of will,” Vox noted.
Reports also took note that the audience might have gotten bored over her performance after Beyonce’s stunning “Lemonade” performance that they are busy checking on their Twitter than looking at the pop star’s performance.
Meanwhile, people on Twitter gave various reactions on her performance.
One tweet said, “When you’re excited for the @britneyspears performance but it comes after a @Beyonce slay #VMAs.”
“Britney Spears is in her Wizards Jordan phase right now. She still looks great but she just can’t perform the same way she did in her prime,” another said.
