With the political situation in Kattegat a complete mess due to Ragnar, his two wives plan to fill in the power vacuum and remove dethrone him.
According to Entertainment Weekly, after the bloody carnage of the mid-season finale, Ragnar limped back to Kattegat in shameful defeat. Unable to cope with his failure he disappeared leaving his sons and queen to rule in his stead.
After the time-skip years had passed, he now returns to see his sons grown and after the revelation that he had hidden the truth about the settlement in Wessex two of his sons were intent on killing him. After having disappeared for so long he shows up and seemingly aware that some of his sons intend to claim the throne by killing him.
While this is happening in broad daylight, his wife Queen Aslaug, already disenchanted by her husband’s actions that bordered on insanity, is starting to think she is better suited for the throne. She was already seen asking the seer if a woman will rule Kattegat and after nearly dispatching Lagertha in “Vikings” 4, her intentions are confirmed.
Lagertha, on the other hand, is back for vengeance. Sportsrageous reported that the shieldmaiden will make Aslaug pay for what she has done. After losing her unborn child in a war Ragnar started, she also believes that her former husband is no longer fit to be king.
It is disheartening to see the once great “Viking” deteriorate to an eccentric drug-reliant man this season. The sacrifices of his friends who believed to be in vain if he loses his grip on power, one even let himself be sacrificed to the gods in order for him to receive their blessings.
Will a woman finally dethrone Ragnar Lothbrok and become queen in “Vikings” 4? Catch it on History Channel and find out.
