On Wednesday, the Albuquerque Police Department received a call regarding a disturbance in the apartment where Victoria lived. When police officers responded, they witnessed a horrific scene. Victoria’s body was dismembered and wrapped inside a burning blanket.
Police said that Victoria was injected with methamphetamine and was sexually assaulted. There was evidence that she was strangled and stabbed prior to being dismembered.
Following the discovery of Victoria’s body, the Albuquerque Police Department announced that the young girl’s mother, 35-year-old Michelle Martens, was arrested for Victoria’s death along with her boyfriend, 31-year-old Fabian Gonzales and Gonzales’ cousin, 31-year-old Jessica Kelley.
The three suspects have been charged with kidnapping, abuse resulting to death, and tampering with evidence. Both Kelley and Gonzales have been charged with criminal sexual penetration of a minor.
According to a report from CBS, Gonzales denied having any involvement in Victoria’s death. Meanwhile, Martens claimed that Gonzales drugged Victoria so she would calm down, and he could have sexual intercourse with her.
Kelley allegedly put her hand over the child’s mouth as she stabbed Victoria in the stomach after Gonzales choked her. Martens claimed it was Gonzales and Kelley who dismembered Victoria’s body.
Following Victoria’s death, Albuquerque Public Schools is now mourning for the loss of one of their students at Petroglyph Elementary. In a statement, the organization said, “We cherish and protect our students and, like the rest of Albuquerque, are having a hard time wrapping our heads around the fact that someone could treat one of them so horrifically. Victoria is in our thoughts and prayers as we hold our children just a little tighter on this sad day.”
Meanwhile, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez described Victoria’s killing as “unspeakable.” “Justice should come down like a hammer,” she said.
