Vanessa Hudgens had a tough week when she lost her father to cancer last Saturday, hours before she was to perform on “Grease: Live!” In memory of her father, the “High School Musical” actress took the stage and performed in his honor.
Greg Hudgens, father of Vanessa Hudgens, lost his battle to cancer after being diagnosed with the ailment since August 2015.
As reported by CNN, Vanessa initially revealed that her father was battling cancer during the 2015 industry Dance Awards in Los Angeles. During that time, she said, “Last year, my boyfriend, Austin, lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage four cancer.” She added, “Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being.”
As reported by E! Online, the “High School Musical” actress took to Twitter and posted, “I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.”
Hours after the passing of her father, Vanessa performed as Rizzo in “Grease: Live!” with Julianne Hough who played Sandy and Aaron Tveit as Danny.
The actress’s fellow “High School Musical” co-star and real-life best friend, Ashley Tisdale, also posted her condolences via Twitter. She then followed up with another Twitter post ushering support for Vanessa.
In other news, Billboard reports the rest of the cast for “Grease: Live!” According to the report, Vanessa performed alongside Carly Rae Jepsen who played Frenchy, Keke Palmer who played Marty, “Dancing with the Stars” competitor Carlos Penavega as Kenickie, and Mario Lopez.
