It has been confirmed that “The Vampire Diaries” will be bidding its goodbye in season 8, with earlier reports that Nina Dobrev will return as Elena Gilbert.
It can be noted that Nina Dobrev left her role in season 6, where her character was spellbound to a deep sleep.
Showrunner Julie Plec has already hinted Nina Dobrev’s return but rumors are circulating that her ex Ian Somerhalder is against the decision.
In a report by Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Nina Dobrev will no longer reprise her role as fans may see Kristen Stewart take on Elena Gilbert’s character for the finale.
“Working with a vampire theme is nothing new for Kristen after portraying Bella in the ‘Twilight’ trilogy,” the report said. “It might be difficult to pull off Kristen as a love interest for either Damon [Ian Somerhalder] or Stefan [Paul Wesley], but maybe Caroline [Candice King] would be interested in dipping her toes in the lady pond.”
Though there has not been any confirmation, Kristen Stewart is rumored to be in negotiations with “The Vampire Diaries” management.
The report added that Ian Somerhalder may welcome Kristen Stewart with open arms in “The Vampire Diaries” as he would prefer her over his ex after their messy break-up. Ian Somerhalder’s wife Nikki Reed may also give the thumbs up for Kristen Stewart as she previously worked with her in vampire movie “Twilight.”
“Ian Somerhalder has absolutely no desire to work with Nina Dobrev ever again,” the report said.
