US, Russia Exploding Over Ukraine As Putin Dangles ‘Extinction’
Russia’s foreign ministry warned that the U.S.-NATO war games over Ukraine spell “explosive consequences.” The warning comes as U.S. commenced Rapid Trident on July 20, participated by more than 1800 military personnel from different allied countries. In the weeks that led up to the drill, the prime minister of Ukraine alleged that Russian president Vladimir Putin wants to eliminate Ukraine.
Rapid Trident, a regional command post exercise and field training exercise focused on peacekeeping and stability operations, will last from July 20 until 31. The war games are being held at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center or IPSC in Yavoriv, Ukraine.
Rapid Trident is being held in support of interoperability among Ukraine, the U.S., NATO and Partnership for Peace member nations. Eighteen countries are participating for this year’s exercise: Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Turkey and the U.S.
“The Rapid Trident exercise comes at the explicit request of the Ukrainian government and military,” the U.S. Army Europe said in an announcement.
Russia warns of ‘explosive consequence’
Just within few hours after the Rapid Trident begun, Russia issued warning that the war games shall bring it “explosive consequences.”
“The military drills involving NATO members and Ukraine’s army that started in Lviv region under US command are a clear demonstration of NATO’s provocative policy to unequivocally support the policies of current Kiev authorities in eastern Ukraine,” Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement obtained by AFP.
“Not only is NATO not ready to recognise the wrongness and possible explosive consequences of holding such drills but it is considerably increasing their scope. These actions… may threaten to disrupt the visible progress in the peace process concerning the deep internal crisis in Ukraine,” the statement said.
Vladimir Putin will eliminate Ukraine
Mr Putin has sent “tens of thousands” of soldiers and rebels in Donetsk and Luhansk with the intention of eliminating Ukraine, the country’s prime minister said.
“Putin’s aim is to kill the Ukrainian project, just to eliminate Ukraine — I have no doubt. For Putin, Ukraine is the battlefield against the free world,” the prime minister said as quoted by The Independent.
