Chris Christie has announced his bid for the White House on Tuesday, becoming the 14th Republican to enter the race. His speech discussed his accomplishments as governor of New Jersey and how he will translate those accomplishments when he gets elected as president of the United States. The majority of his speech, though, dwelt on criticism of President Barack Obama’s leadership.

Ready to fight for the Americans

Christie highlighted his thirteen years of experience serving as U.S. Attorney and governor fighting for fairness and justice for the people of New Jersey. The time has now come for him to fight for the American people for he has become stronger, he said.

“I am now ready to fight for the people of the United States of America,” Christie said in his speech.

He recalled how he saved New Jersey from a bad economy with an eleven billion-dollar deficit on a twenty nine billion-dollar budget.

“We balanced six budgets in a row. We’ve refused to raise taxes on the people of this state for six years. We made the hard decisions that had to be made to improve our education system, we reformed tenure for the first time in 110 years. We made the difficult decisions to reform pension and health benefits,” Christie said, highlighting that he can do the same given the opportunity to be president.

New Jersey was able to manage under his leadership even with many cynics saying he was wasting his time to the state that is not governable, Christie held. The same cynics are now saying that America is irredeemable from a government that does not work together anymore. And he will once again prove them wrong, Christie declared.

The president who ignores

Christie then criticized Mr Obama as a president who ignores the congress. The congress in return is also ignoring the president he said.

“After seven years, I heard the President of the United States say the other day that the world respects America more because of his leadership. This convinces me, this convinces me. This is the final confirmation that President Obama lives in his own world, not in our world,” Christie said.

He then took a jab at presidential rival Hillary Clinton.

“And the fact is this. After seven years of a weak and feckless foreign policy, run by Barack Obama, we’d better not turn it over to his second mate Hilary Clinton.”

Christie promised not to be the kind of president that Mr Obama is – the prom king of America.

“I am not looking to be the most popular guy who looks in your eyes every day and tries to figure out what you want to hear, say it and then turning around and doing something else,” he said.

“If you give me the privilege to be your president, I will wake up every day, not only with my heart strong and my mind sharp, but with my ears open and my arms open. To welcome the American people no matter what party, no matter what race or creed or color to make sure that you know that this is your country too. We are going to go and win this election…”
