Scientists from the Nautilus Live exploration has released a video of its live exploration on the surface of the coast of California at a depth of 900 meters where they spotted the purplish underwater critter.

But when their Exploration Vessel (E/V) zoomed in, they found the squid (Rossia pacifica), which lives in the Pacific Ocean. The squid can be found in the waters of Japan and Southern California, especially deep in the seabed.
Samantha Wishnak, a science communication fellow aboard the E/V Nautilus, told Live Science how adorable the purple squid was.
“On that watch it happened to be a lot of geology folks or ecology folks, so a lot of the commentary was of course more like ‘What is this thing, it’s so cute!’ and sometimes we have less of that when we see rocks,” Wishnak said.

Wishnak described how incredible the animals’ abilities are, including its camouflaging skills by using objects or material it can burrow into to create a blanket. This ability, Wishnak added, is helpful in the animal’s quest for targeting its preys.
Scientists in the control room were fascinated by the googly-eyed squid, which appeared surprised upon seeing the E/V. One of the scientists described the squid looking like “some little kid dropped their toy.”
The video has already received more than a million views since it was published on August 12. Some commenters were equally fascinated by the purplish squid as evidenced by their comments.
