Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier had an easy time against last-minute challenger Anderson Silva, and DC is now ready to move to a new chapter of his career.
Cormier was supposed to face Jon Jones for UFC 200, but a doping violation prevented the rematch from happening. The incident happened days before the big event and the champ ended up settling for “The Spider”.
Despite the hardly impressive card at UFC 200, life goes on for Cormier. With Jones likely to be out for up to two years, the 37-year-old fighter is looking at other options. And the next challenger could be known soon. Fox Sports reported that he could be facing the winner between Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Glover Teixeira.
Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira will meet as the co-main event for UFC on Fox 20 this coming July 23 at the United Center in Chicago according to ESPN. If Johnson pulls out a win, it could be a chance at redemption for “Rumble,” who lost in the title-fight against Cormier back in 2015.
Johnson has managed to get back on track since that defeat but faces a formidable foe in Teixeira. He is best known for losing to Jones back in 2014 on points but has equally found a way to rebound from that close loss.
The Brazilian’s last big win was that first round knockout victory over Rashad Evans at UFC Fight Night in April. From the looks of it, the Johnson vs. Teixeira matchup could be a humdinger with someone likely going to sleep.
Compared to his UFC 200 match with Silva, a potential card with either Johnson or Teixeira could make up for the disappointment of that non-title match. Cormier got his share of boos and jeers at UFC 200 but hopefully his next match will make up for that disappointing card.
