WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar facing off with Mark Hunt will now be the main event of the UFC 200. This is after the interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.
Although Jones denies the doping allegations, there is no time to review the sample. The 28-year old MMA fighter was supposed to face off with reigning champion, 37-year old Daniel Cormier.
UFC: Brock Lesnar vs Mark Hunt
For the meantime, the match Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt will be the main event for UFC 200. Lesnar had recently returned to Mixed Martial Arts after leaving for the WWE.
This is the second change to the headline fight. Connor McGregor was originally due to fight Nate Diaz. The supposed rematch to their thrilling fight in March, however, didn’t fall through.
Michael Bisping expressed his willingness to take Jones’ place in the UFC 200. The Manchester-based MMA fighter tweeted that, for the record, he will fight Daniel Cormier, he loves him, but if the UFC needs him, He’s in.
Jon Jonas Failed Drug Test
According to the BBC, Jones claimed that he has been taken the same supplements before every fight. If he did take any new ones, they were not performance enhancing.
His manager, Malki Kawa, refrained from naming the substance before a B sample was tested by USADA. The United States Anti-Doping Authority was also the one who tested the first sample back on June 16.
UFC President Dana White said that the MMA fighter has a chance to prove himself innocent. However, it will be “super, super disappointing” news if he is found guilty.
The failed drug test will definitely be a setback for Jones but this is not his first controversy involving drugs. He was tested positive for cocaine before beating Cormier back in 2015, however the test happened only after the fight.
